Overview
Tie cords and sleeving are the consumables that finish a winding: cord to bind and lace coils, sleeving to protect leads and end-windings. Both are made from meta- and para-aramid fibre so that they share the thermal class of the insulation system around them.
It is a small part of the bill of materials and a common cause of failure. A cord that relaxes at temperature lets a winding move; a sleeve that embrittles cracks and exposes a lead. Matching the cord and sleeve to the system's thermal class avoids both.

Frequently asked questions
Which cord should I use for coil binding?
Three-strand where the binding carries load and must not stretch; two-strand for lighter lacing. Tell us the duty and we will recommend a diameter.
Why not use a cheaper polyester cord?
Polyester will not survive Class H temperatures. A cord that relaxes lets the winding move, and movement is what abrades insulation.
What is the difference between woven and braided sleeving?
Braided sleeving expands and conforms more readily over irregular shapes; woven is more dimensionally consistent. Both are used for lead protection.
Can they be varnished?
Yes, and they usually are — the varnish locks the binding and stiffens the sleeve into position.
What temperature can they take?
Continuous service to 220 °C, matching the aramid insulation system around them.
