Overview
Pure Aramid Paper YT510 is an electrical insulation paper made from 100% meta-aramid fibre and finished by calendering — a high-pressure rolling process that compresses the sheet into a dense, smooth, uniform surface. It is manufactured by Yantai Metastar Special Paper Co., Ltd. and is a direct functional alternative to DuPont™ Nomex® 410 in most Class H applications.
The material is inherently flame resistant and does not melt or support combustion. It holds its mechanical and dielectric properties continuously at 180 °C, and is used in Class R systems rated to 220 °C. Because meta-aramid degrades gracefully rather than embrittling suddenly, insulation built on YT510 tends to fail predictably at end of life instead of catastrophically mid-service — which is why it is specified into equipment that is expensive to unwind.
Why calendered
Calendering is what separates YT510 from its uncalendered sibling YT511, and the choice between them is a practical one rather than a question of quality:
- YT510 (calendered) — dense, smooth and dimensionally stable. Higher dielectric strength per unit thickness, feeds cleanly through high-speed winding and slot-insertion machinery, and resists mechanical damage during assembly. This is the default for slot liners, phase insulation and layer insulation.
- YT511 (uncalendered) — more porous and absorbent, so it takes up varnish and resin readily. Chosen where impregnation matters more than surface finish, such as in vacuum pressure impregnated windings.

Applications
Transformers
Layer and barrier insulation, end fill, duct strips and wrapping in dry-type, cast-resin and oil-filled transformers. Particularly where operating temperature or overload duty rules out cellulose-based papers.
Motors and generators
Slot liners, slot wedges, phase separators and coil wrapping in traction motors, industrial drives, turbogenerators and alternators. The calendered surface matters here: it feeds through automated slot-insertion equipment without snagging.
Electric vehicles
Traction motor slot and phase insulation, and barrier insulation in battery packs, where continuous high-temperature operation and flame resistance are both requirements rather than preferences.
Rail traction
Traction motors and auxiliary machines subject to vibration, dust ingress and sustained thermal load, where insulation is expected to last the overhaul interval.
Renewable generation
Wind turbine generators and solar inverter transformers, where access for maintenance is limited and insulation life determines service intervals.
Other
Capacitors, cable insulation, switchgear, industrial heaters and any equipment where a thin, thermally stable dielectric barrier is required.

Slitting is done to your dimensions rather than sold from fixed stock widths, so there is no need to buy a wider reel and trim it yourself.

Frequently asked questions
Is YT510 equivalent to Nomex® 410?
Functionally, yes — both are calendered 100% meta-aramid papers used in Class H systems, and YT510 is routinely specified as an alternative to Nomex® 410. They are separate products from separate manufacturers, so where a specification names a brand by trade name rather than by performance, we supply that brand instead. Send us the specification and we will tell you which applies.
What is the difference between YT510 and YT511?
YT510 is calendered: dense, smooth, higher dielectric strength per unit thickness, and better suited to automated winding. YT511 is uncalendered: more porous, so it absorbs varnish and resin more readily, which suits impregnated windings. Same fibre, different finish, different jobs.
What temperature can it withstand?
Continuous service at 180 °C, which is thermal Class H. It is also used in Class R systems rated to 220 °C. It does not melt at any temperature; above its service range it chars rather than flowing.
What thickness should I specify?
That follows from the voltage stress and the mechanical duty, not from the material. Thinner grades (0.05–0.13 mm) are typical for layer insulation and small-slot machines; 0.18–0.30 mm for general slot liners; 0.38 mm and above where mechanical protection during insertion is the governing factor. Tell us the application and we will recommend a thickness against it.
Is there a minimum order quantity?
Yes, and it depends on thickness and slit width, because narrow slitting from a master reel has a practical floor. Ask and we will tell you the minimum for the size you need rather than quoting a blanket figure.
Can you supply cut sheets or die-cut parts?
Yes. Sheets to size and die-cut parts to drawing are both available. Send the drawing or a sample and we will quote the tooling and the parts separately so you can see what each costs.
What documentation comes with a shipment?
Mill test certificate, certificate of conformity, packing list and the commercial export set. RoHS and REACH declarations are available on request, as is third-party inspection where your specification requires it.
How long is delivery?
It depends on whether the thickness and width are held or need slitting, and on the destination and Incoterm. We give a firm date with the quotation rather than an indicative lead time, and we tell you if it slips.
