Overview
YT516 is a calendered meta-aramid paper made to a low-halogen specification. It carries the thermal and dielectric behaviour of a standard calendered aramid paper, with the halogen content held down for applications where combustion products matter as much as insulation performance.
That distinction matters in enclosed spaces and in battery systems. In a fire, halogenated materials release corrosive gases that damage electronics well beyond the point of ignition. Low-halogen construction limits that secondary damage, which is why the grade appears in electronics assemblies, lithium battery barriers and rolling stock.
Where YT516 differs
Mechanically and thermally it behaves like any good calendered aramid paper. What you are specifying when you choose YT516 is the material's behaviour under fire and its environmental profile:

Frequently asked questions
What does low-halogen actually mean here?
That the halogen content is held below the threshold set by the applicable specification. The practical consequence is less corrosive gas released if the material is involved in a fire. The datasheet states the figures and the standard they are measured against.
Can I use YT516 anywhere YT510 is specified?
Thermally and mechanically it is a close substitute, but a substitution should be approved by whoever owns the specification. Send us the spec and we will tell you whether it is a straight swap.
