Flexible Laminate AH

Flexible Laminate AH

Polyimide film (Kapton) bonded to one side of Metastar® aramid paper. Designed for single-sided barrier protection in high-temperature Class H systems. Combines the excellent chemical and thermal resistance of polyimide with aramid mechanical toughness.

Priced per requirement — tell us grade, width, thickness and quantity and we quote against it.

Overview

AH is a two-layer laminate: polyimide film — the material commonly known by the trade name Kapton — bonded to one side of aramid paper. Polyimide raises the temperature capability of the construction well above what polyester allows, which is what puts AH into Class H systems.

It is specified where the machine runs hot enough that a PET-based laminate would age prematurely, but where only one face needs the film barrier.

Polyimide instead of polyester

  • Temperature — polyimide supports Class H (180 °C) service where PET is limited to Class F
  • Chemical and radiation stability — polyimide holds up where PET degrades
  • Thin, strong barrier — high dielectric strength in very little thickness
  • One film face — AHA is the cored equivalent when both faces need to be aramid

Key properties

  • Two-layer: polyimide film bonded to aramid paper
  • Class H (180 °C) service
  • Very high dielectric strength for its thickness
  • Chemically stable and radiation resistant
  • Aramid face bonds and takes varnish
  • Inherently flame resistant

Applications

High-temperature motors

Slot and phase insulation in Class H machines.

Traction motors

Machines running hot with sustained duty.

Aerospace and defence

Where temperature and radiation stability both govern.

Transformers

Layer insulation in high-temperature dry-type units.

Standards and compliance

  • UL recognised component — certification held by the manufacturer
  • CE marked
  • RoHS compliant
  • REACH compliant
  • Manufactured under ISO 9001:2015

Certificates of conformity and mill test certificates are supplied with each shipment. Third-party testing can be arranged on request where a specification demands independent verification.

Sizes, packing and supply

  • Thickness: 0.13–0.50 mm, typical range
  • Width: slit to 1,000 mm
  • Form: reels; die-cut parts to drawing

Quality and inspection

Every consignment is inspected before shipment and supplied with its mill certificate. For repeat programmes we hold the approved specification on file so a reorder repeats a known outcome rather than reopening the conversation.

Frequently asked questions

Is AH the same as Kapton laminate?

Kapton is DuPont's trade name for their polyimide film. AH uses polyimide film of that type bonded to aramid paper. Where a specification names a brand, tell us and we will supply against it.

When do I need AH rather than AM?

When the operating temperature exceeds Class F. Polyester film ages quickly above 155 °C; polyimide does not.

Can you supply it slit to my width?

Yes — slit to any width up to 1,000 mm rather than sold from fixed stock sizes.

Can you supply die-cut parts?

Yes. Send the drawing or a sample and we will quote tooling and parts separately so you can see what each costs.

What documentation comes with it?

Mill test certificate, certificate of conformity, packing list and the commercial export set. RoHS and REACH declarations on request.

Next step

Tell us the size and quantity

Send the thickness, slit width and annual volume for https://aramidpapers.com/wp-content/themes/aramidpapers and we come back with a costed offer, a firm lead time and the mill certificate you will receive with it.

Tell us the size and quantity

Tell us the grade, thickness, width and quantity. We come back with a costed offer and the datasheet, and say plainly if anything will not work.

We reply the same working day. Your details are used to answer this enquiry and nothing else.
