Overview
APA is a three-layer laminate: polyester film cored between two layers of aramid paper. Both outer faces are aramid, so both bond, both take varnish, and the film is protected from mechanical damage on either side.
That symmetry is the reason to choose it. In a slot liner with film on one face only, the exposed film can be scored during insertion; coring it between two papers removes that risk and gives a material that behaves the same whichever way it is fitted.
Why core the film
- Both faces bond — varnish and adhesive key into aramid on either side
- Film protected — no exposed film to score during insertion
- Symmetric — no wrong way round on the assembly line
- Complete dielectric barrier — the film carries the barrier, the papers carry the mechanics
Key properties
- Three-layer: PET film cored between two aramid papers
- Both faces aramid — bonds and takes varnish on either side
- Class F (155 °C) service with PET film
- Complete dielectric barrier from the cored film
- High mechanical and tear strength
- Symmetric — no orientation to control on assembly
Applications
Motor slot insulation
Slot liners where the liner is inserted mechanically and film damage is a risk.
Phase insulation
Phase separators requiring a full barrier with bondable faces.
Transformers
Layer and barrier insulation in dry-type transformers.
General machines
Anywhere a symmetric, fully bondable barrier is preferred.
Standards and compliance
- UL recognised component — certification held by the manufacturer
- CE marked
- RoHS compliant
- REACH compliant
- Manufactured under ISO 9001:2015
Certificates of conformity and mill test certificates are supplied with each shipment. Third-party testing can be arranged on request where a specification demands independent verification.
Sizes, packing and supply
- Thickness: 0.13–0.50 mm, typical range
- Width: slit to 1,000 mm
- Form: reels; die-cut parts to drawing
Quality and inspection
Every consignment is inspected before shipment and supplied with its mill certificate. For repeat programmes we hold the approved specification on file so a reorder repeats a known outcome rather than reopening the conversation.
Frequently asked questions
Is APA worth the extra over AM?
If the liner is machine-inserted, or if both faces need to bond, yes. If one face is against a slot wall and never bonds, AM does the same job for less.
What temperature class is APA?
Class F, 155 °C, set by the polyester film. AHA is the Class H equivalent using polyimide.
Can you supply it slit to my width?
Yes — slit to any width up to 1,000 mm rather than sold from fixed stock sizes.
Can you supply die-cut parts?
Yes. Send the drawing or a sample and we will quote tooling and parts separately so you can see what each costs.
What documentation comes with it?
Mill test certificate, certificate of conformity, packing list and the commercial export set. RoHS and REACH declarations on request.
