Flexible Laminate AHA

Flexible Laminate AHA

Premium high-temperature 3-layer laminate featuring Kapton polyimide film sandwiched between two layers of Metastar® aramid paper. Engineered for critical Class H and Class N applications where polyester laminates cannot survive. Retains high dielectric and mechanical strength under continuous high-temperature operating conditions.

Priced per requirement — tell us grade, width, thickness and quantity and we quote against it.

Overview

AHA is the premium construction in the range: polyimide film cored between two layers of aramid paper. It combines the temperature capability of polyimide with the symmetry and mechanical protection of a three-layer build, and is specified for critical Class H applications where neither can be compromised.

It is the most expensive laminate of the four and the one to reach for when failure is costly — traction machines, aerospace actuation, generators with long overhaul intervals.

The top of the range

  • Polyimide core — Class H (180 °C) service and beyond
  • Three-layer — both faces aramid, film fully protected
  • Symmetric — no orientation to control during assembly
  • Critical duty — specified where an insulation failure is expensive to reach

Key properties

  • Three-layer: polyimide film cored between two aramid papers
  • Class H (180 °C) service
  • Complete dielectric barrier, mechanically protected on both faces
  • Both faces bond and take varnish
  • Chemically stable and radiation resistant
  • Symmetric — no wrong way round on assembly

Applications

Traction and rail

Main insulation in traction motors and generators.

Aerospace

Actuation and generation systems where temperature and reliability both govern.

Critical generators

Machines with long overhaul intervals where access is difficult.

High-temperature transformers

Layer and barrier insulation in demanding dry-type units.

Standards and compliance

  • UL recognised component — certification held by the manufacturer
  • CE marked
  • RoHS compliant
  • REACH compliant
  • Manufactured under ISO 9001:2015

Certificates of conformity and mill test certificates are supplied with each shipment. Third-party testing can be arranged on request where a specification demands independent verification.

Sizes, packing and supply

  • Thickness: 0.13–0.50 mm, typical range
  • Width: slit to 1,000 mm
  • Form: reels; die-cut parts to drawing

Quality and inspection

Every consignment is inspected before shipment and supplied with its mill certificate. For repeat programmes we hold the approved specification on file so a reorder repeats a known outcome rather than reopening the conversation.

Frequently asked questions

When is AHA justified over AH?

When both faces need to bond, when the liner is machine-inserted and film damage is a risk, or when the cost of an insulation failure is high enough that the symmetric construction is worth paying for.

What temperature class is AHA?

Class H, 180 °C, set by the polyimide film and the aramid papers together.

Can you supply it slit to my width?

Yes — slit to any width up to 1,000 mm rather than sold from fixed stock sizes.

Can you supply die-cut parts?

Yes. Send the drawing or a sample and we will quote tooling and parts separately so you can see what each costs.

What documentation comes with it?

Mill test certificate, certificate of conformity, packing list and the commercial export set. RoHS and REACH declarations on request.

Next step
